Information You Should Know
New Lead Paint Law
On April 22, 2010, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) put into effect new laws regarding homes with lead paint. The new laws require any renovation work performed on homes built before 1978 to be performed by a certified contractor. The contractor will be required to provide to the home owner the Renovate Right Brochure which contains information about this new law and how it is to be enacted. United Home Builders, Inc. is certified to work on homes with lead paint. For more information, please call us.
Consumer Rights
Know your rights and avoid home repair and remodeling fraud. Did you know you have 3 business days after signing a contract, to cancel a home remodeling or repair without penalty or obligation. This applies if:
- The sale of services or merchandise involves $25 or more, and
- The contract is signed when the salesperson or contractor is physically present in your residence.
Illinois Energy Conservation Code for Commercial & Residential Buildings
Public Act 096-0778 was signed into law August 28, 2009, amending the Energy Efficient Commercial Building Act by including residential buildings and amending the name of the act to the Energy Efficient Building Act. The new requirements for residential buildings became effective on January 29, 2010. The law requires all new commercial and residential construction, for which a building permit application is received by a municipality or county, to follow a comprehensive statewide energy conservation code. Renovations, alterations, additions, and repairs to most existing commercial and residential buildings must follow the Illinois Energy Code.
